Homeless people in Tokyo can get a roof over their head at a homeless shelter. However, it’s difficult for LGBT people to use these homeless shelters because they have to share a room with people of the same sex.
But from November, it will be easier for homeless lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people to find shelter, a support group said on July 13.
The group plans to offer a temporary home to LGBT homeless people. LGBT people can become homeless after they are assaulted by family members or partners. They also can become homeless after they quit their jobs because of workplace harassment.
The “LGBT support house” will begin with just one dwelling in Tokyo’s Nakano Ward. LGBT people will be able to live there until they can afford another place. The money to run the house will come from crowdfunding, the group said. (Kyodo)
