A YouTube video of an Osaka Prefecture man showing off his car’s speed has got him in trouble.
The video doesn’t show the man’s face. Instead, it mostly shows the dashboard of a Nissan GT-R driving at about 280 kph in a tunnel. A Nozomi shinkansen can travel at about 300 kph.
A person who saw the video told the police about it. After the police saw the video, they caught up with the man. On Nov. 6 they referred him to prosecutors. They said he exceeded the speed limit by around 220 kph in the city of Higashiosaka at around 4:10 a.m. on Jan. 12.
Police said the man told them: “I wanted everyone to watch (the YouTube video).”
The man admitted he was speeding, but told the police he wanted to “check the performance” of the car.
The YouTube video was apparently posted by the driver. It shows the car going from 0 to 280 kph in about 20 seconds. (Kyodo)
