Emile Ratelband thinks age is just a number. And his is a number the Dutchman wants changed. Ratelband is 69 years old, but wants a court in the Netherlands to give him a new birthdate to make him 49.
The TV personality says changing his age would be the same as a person changing their gender.
“With this free(dom) of choice, choice of name, freeness of gender, I want to have my own age. I want to control myself,” he said Nov. 8.
Ratelband says he wants to avoid age discrimination in society — especially on dating websites.
“If I go on Tinder, then I get women from 68, 69 when women are there.”
However, an expert on human rights said age and gender discrimination aren’t the same. Marjolein van den Brink of Utrecht University said gender “follows you from birth to grave.” On the other hand, elderly discrimination doesn’t happen to you if you are younger than 40 or 50. (AP)
