U.S. President Donald Trump welcomed last year’s college football’s winners to the White House on Jan. 14 with a special meal. But the meal wasn’t cooked by professional chefs.
Instead, members of the Clemson Tigers from Clemson University in South Carolina dined on food from fast food restaurants like Wendy’s and McDonald’s.
Trump, a fast food lover, said he paid for their meal because of the partial government shutdown. He did not say how much it cost.
“We ordered American fast food, paid for by me. Lots of hamburgers, lots of pizza,” Trump said after returning to the White House from a trip to New Orleans.
Spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said much of the staff in the White House residence has been furloughed because of the shutdown, “so the president is personally paying for the event to be catered with some of everyone’s favorite fast foods.” (AP)
