Tokyo Metro Co. wants to ease congestion on its subway lines by offering free noodles to early bird commuters. It’s holding a campaign to give 3,000 commuters free soba noodles with tempura.
The free meals can be redeemed at Metro An restaurants in some stations in downtown Tokyo. But there are some conditions.
To get the freebies, passengers had to register their IC card information before the campaign started. The campaign began on Jan. 21 and ends on Feb. 1. Passengers have to ride each of the 10 weekdays in the campaign, and they have to ride before 8 a.m. Finally, they have to board a train on the Tozai Line between Toyo-Katsutadai and Monzen-nakacho stations.
If 3,000 commuters sign up to the campaign and meet all the requirements, then each one gets the full meal coupon.
In 2018, the Tokyo Metro had the highest congestion ranking in Japan. (Kyodo)
