A record-high 10.2 million people visited the Louvre last year, thanks to a boost from a music video by pop superstar Beyonce and her husband Jay-Z, the Paris museum said on Jan. 3.

The Louvre said it was happy at the response to the video for the song APES**T. In the video, the couple dances in front of the Mona Lisa, the Venus de Milo and other famous artworks. It has been viewed nearly 150 million times on YouTube.

“It is good to see that these American artists, creators of today, are interested in a museum of archaeology and ancient art,” said Louvre director Jean-Luc Martinez.

The number of visitors has been climbing after a drop in 2015, when Islamist militants killed 130 people in Paris. The museum saw a 25 percent increase in visitors last year from the previous year. Three-quarters of the visitors are foreigners, including about 1.5 million American and 1 million Chinese tourists. (Reuters)
