A day after 14-year-old compatriot Coco Yoshizawa won gold in the women’s street skateboarding final, Horigome nailed his last trick to earn a score of 97.08, edging out U.S. skateboarder Jagger Eaton by 0.1 point to clinch gold.
Elsewhere, fencer Koki Kano beat France’s Yannick Borel in the men’s individual epee final for the gold medal July 28, achieving his long-cherished goal of winning an individual medal at the Olympics after earning gold in the team event at the delayed 2020 Tokyo Games.
In the equestrian team eventing, Ryuzo Kitajima, Toshiyuki Tanaka, Yoshiaki Oiwa and Kazuma Tomoto on July 29 earned Japan’s first Olympic equestrian medal since the 1932 Los Angeles Games, finishing third for bronze. Britain won gold and France silver.
